Movie - The Prophecy: Uprising (2005)

I always think due to my reviews on certain movies that it is fairly obvious if I like or dislike a movie series. Can you tell this one is starting to drag? I might not watch the last one as this one wasn't all that great really. I'm still giving it a three because though the story was slightly confusing at times, the random body snatching was pretty cool.

Okay sooooo in this one we follow a police officer who when he was younger sold his parents out as traitors to their country thus resulting in their deaths. He was separated from his sister and thought her dead until Lucifer leads him to her. At this time she is being pursued by angels so that they can take a book which holds the outcome of the war between the angels thus providing whichever side who obtains in the ammunition they need to win.

The angel ends up possessing her brother, she kills her brother, and the demon is taken by Lucifer. The book is safe (for now).

The movie had its perks such as the angel playing musical bodies while in search of the book. I thought that was kind of cool and very Invasion of the Body Snatchers. No Christopher Walken in this one so it kind of loses its touch.

Movie - The Prophecy III: The Ascent (2000)

Okay the last Prophecy movie in the series that has Christopher Walken as Gabriel which is depressing because I feel like he really made the series. I'm assuming Jennifer Beals wasn't worth the cost of a very tiny part at the beginning where her character was burned alive try to protect her son as a different actress was cast for that role.

So Valerie gets killed and her son Dan escapes only to grow up into a God hating preacher. He is shot and killed during one of his sermons only to come back to life as a new man. Terrified at what has happened, his girlfriend teams up with the man who runs the morgue to find out what's happening. The angels are after Dan as well. One of them works with his girlfriend to find him.

Dan makes his way to where he is being summoned and ultimately defeats the two angels who meant to end the world.

This movie's storyline was okay and I gave it a three. Christopher Walken really made the movie funny though as he was turned into a human during this movie. He's a funny guy and brings great character to the movie. Overall though, it was okay, but not memorably great.

Movie - The Prophecy II (1998)

So here is the second movie. This one was a lot easier to navigate through which was refreshing. We again have Christopher Walken as Gabriel. There are also two characters played by the L Word cast which I thought was pretty cool. The main protagonist is Jennifer Beals who played Bette Porter in the L Word and Michael is played by Eric Roberts who was Shane's Dad in the L Word. I was also surprised to see Brittany Murphy in this movie as well. So we are going in with a really well known cast which is great.

The movie follows Valerie (Jennifer Beals) who is a doctor. She is seduced by Danyael (an angel) and he gets her pregnant with a "super baby" (half human/half angel). Gabriel is back again as Lucifer rejected him from Hell and is determined to kill her to stop the baby from being born. With the help of Danyael and Michael, she is able to defeat Gabriel.

There is a brief part in the very beginning where you see the detective from the first movie living as a monk and then he is murdered by Gabriel. I guess he needed that little bit of payback for sending him to Hell.

Overall I thought this movie was really good and a lot more composed than the first one. This was much much easier to follow and the different between good and evil was clearly defined. I gave this one a four especially for the great cast selection. Let's see how number three goes...

Movie - The Prophecy (1995)

I am doing another series piece as this was next in my queue on Netflix (I believe all five of them are on Netflix if you wanted to power watch them like I am doing). These are religious movies that a based around Gabriel the fallen angel.

There are a few surprising actors in this movie including Viggo and Christopher Walken. The first movie is about Gabriel's journey to take an evil soul from the Earth to fight against the other angels. A detective and a school teacher become involved when a young student gets the evil soul transferred into her. During a ritual to remove the soul, Lucifer helps the detective stop Gabriel and takes him back to Hell.

To be honest, this movie was rather confusing to me as I am very ignorant to religious stories so it was hard for me to tell which angels were good and which were bad. Overall the movie was entertaining and gets a three out of me. For some reason this movie gives me a "Wishmaster" feel though I liked those movies much better than these. Let me know if you felt the same way.

Movie - The Tortured (2010)

Another movie from the makers of Saw which is good as I do like their films quite a bit. This is another movie about justice. The movie follows a married couple who lose their son to a kidnapper. Once the police finally apprehend the kidnapper, it is too late and the son is found dead.

Unhappy with the verdict of only 25 to life, the mother of the deceased child formulates a plan with her husband to capture the man and torture him to make them feel better. This reminds me in part of Law Abiding Citizen only with more gore (much much more gore).

After highjacking the prison transport vehicle, the couple chains the criminal in the basement and spend days torturing him even though he claims he does not know who they are or why they are doing this to him.

The police are on the hunt to find the "escaped" fugitive and finally apprehend him in the woods. At this point the movie lets you realize that the couple actually nabbed the wrong fugitive as there was another man in the transport with him. So in the end the one they tortured escapes and commits suicide in the shed outside of the house.

This was a turn that I was just like OH NO about because they went through all of that trouble for justice and then end up killing an inocent man. What a twist of luck that ended up being!

I gave this movie a four. Good movie!

Movie - Pontypool (2008)

 photo Photobucket_Pontypool.jpg
Okay another Netflix movie only this one was extremely confusing (at least to me). This is kind of like a weird zombie cult movie in a way. The movie follows Grant Mazzy who is a radio talk show host. While on air, his team starts receiving weird calls that there are mobs of cult people crowding around the doctor's office. More reports start coming in as people are being infected with a virus and killing each other.

The entire time Grant stays on air the entire time trying to make sense of everything and keeping everyone informed. Eventually they figure out that the infection is spread by word of mouth. Once Grant cures his boss, he goes on air again and attempts to cure the rest of the town by confusing their speech. In the end everyone is destroyed by what I am assuming is the government.

So the movie was confusing and I really have no idea what was really going on with those people. Not a bad movie, just very strange. I'll give it a three.

Movie - The Final (2010)

Another Netflix movie (go watch it now!) This movie follows a group of bullied outcasts in highschool who decide to take revenge on the kids who bullied them.

**SPOILERS**
The outcasts trick the kids into going to a party and drug the punch so that everyone passes out. When they wake up, they're chained to each other on the floor surrounded by their torturers. The students are forced to cut each other's fingers off, one of them is paralyzed, a few have their skin burned, and a few are tortured in other ways.

When an uninvited guy comes to the party, he is released by one of the outcasts and tries to get help. Once the party ends, the outcasts then commit suicide in front of the crowd. The police finally find the party and save the students who are left. I'll give this movie a four. Reminded me of Colombine and really hit home as bullying is a big issue in life. I hope this movie sends out a message to everyone who thinks it's right to bully people. There are always repercussions to actions whether they be something like this or not. Just try to be kind and courteous to everyone, regardless and you should not have an issue.

Anyway, great movie. Help us all end bullying by being a friend.

Movie - The Den (2013)

This movie came highly recommended by the folks at Netflix and for those of you who'd like to see the movie, it's on there now. This movie surrounds a computer social media program called "The Den" which is similar to Skype and Chat Roulette. A girl is paid by her college to do a documentary on the program by recording random chats she has. During her project, she witnesses a murder.

**SPOILER**
Upon seeing the murder, a hacker breaks into her computer and starts to warp the footage she sees from other people, answers chats for her, and pretends to be her friends to fool her. Over the next week she starts to see people in her life disappearing and the police are convinced that it's just a hoax.

The hackers kidnap her and it is revealed that they have a whole ring where they hack, kidnap, and murder for a website that they use to find new victims. The movie kind of reminded me of Feardotcom in a way. I really enjoyed the movie (not just because it was a first person view movie) and it was pretty good. Go take a watch. The movie really takes a different perspective on social media and how easily technology can be used against us. It seems with this kind of technology that it is becoming easier and easier for things like this to happen. I gave this one a four.

Video Game - Outlast: Whistleblower (2014 PS4)

This is another review for some DLC, but this time I'm reviewing the one for Outlast. For those of you who saw my review for Outlast, you know how I feel about the game already.

I actually liked the DLC better than the original game because there were more light sources, it was easier to navigate, and the game was shorter. I don't mind a long game, but the original was very monotonous and after a while became boring.

In this game you are a guy who betrays the company he is working for. After he is found out, he is thrown into an asylum to keep him quiet. You have to fight your way through various obstacles and extremely insane people to get out. You actually do get out in this one unlike the original game where you actually die. Sorry was that a spoiler? :)

The most memorable part of the game is when a really crazy guy tries to castrate you and hang you. You enter a room where there are hundreds of others that met the same fate. That part was very stressful and crazy in my opinion.

This was a pretty good DLC and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the original game. I'll give this one a three.

Video Game - Dragon Age: Awakening (2010 PS3)

Dragon Age: Awakening is the downloadable content expansion pack for Dragon Age: Origins. The game is pretty long for add on content which is really nice as the original game was so great. Since I did not review the Origins game on here, I'll explain my only two problems with this game. Problem one is that the fighting is kind of retarded especially with your character making announcements each time you press attack (example: "I'm on it" "Here we go" "I got it" over and over again). Problem two is that your character doesn't talk so the conversations seem very one sided as the person you are talking to speaks. Both of these issues were cleaned up in the second game which was great and I'm sure it will be even more cleaned up in the third installment coming out within the next two months.

The game follows a grey warden who is helping two cities fight against a hoard of darkspawn (evil guys) who are led by a broodmother. Along the way you see old faces, new faces, and characters you end up meeting up with again in the second game. I like when they revisit characters in games, it gives you that familiararity and makes it easy to play. One of the gripes I have with this game is that you have the gift items that you can present to your team members to make them like you more (such as in both of the other games) however you can't engage in a relationship with those characters. What's the point of making them like you if you can't get with them? If you're a fan of Dragon Age, you'll know what I mean and are probably just as disappointed as I am.

Overall this is a great add on to the Origins game and it is very easy to get all of the trophies for it (will require two playthroughs to get all 8). Great add on and very cheap to find these days. If you get the ultimate edition of Origins, it comes with this game and all of the other DLC and nowadays you can get that for about $12.00. I don't recommend downloading straight from PSN as you can get this very cheap at a used game store such as GameStop or the Exchange.

I gave this DLC a 5/5. Great stuff.

Movie - You're Next (2011)

This is another gem my fiance found on Netflix (yes it is on there now and yes you should be watching it!) **Spoilers!**

The movie is about a family who is meeting up at a summer home to spend time together for the parent's anniversary. The household contains the mother, father, two sons (and their partners), and two sisters (and their partners). While eating dinner, the sister's boyfriend gets an arrow through the head through the window killing him. After the initial murder, the family scrambles for safety. Each family member begins being picked off in certain ways as men in animal masks kill them.

The one brother (Crispin) has a girlfriend named Erin. Erin apparently grew up in a survivalist colony so she is completely prepared for the fight for their lives. As the story progresses, however, you learn that brother Felix and his girlfriend Zee contracted the men to kill off the entire family in order to inherit the family's money (millions). Felix underestimates Erin as she herself kills the men he hired and ultimtely himself and Zee as well. Being the only one left alive, Erin answers a call on Felix's phone and learns that her boyfriend Crispin was involved in the money scam as well. She murders him once the truth is revealed. The police arrive at this moment and shoot her after she kills Crispin.

The movie is pretty crazy and has big twists that I really did not expect at all. At some point Erin sets up a trap that will decapitate the next person who walks through the front door next and I kept remembering myself thinking "don't be Crispin, don't be Crispin!" Then I learned he was involved and wished that it would have happened. Jerk...

Anyway, I gave this one a four. Pretty good and full of a good bit of gore which is nice.
